Fitting Instructions

Fitting graphics kits onto your kart is a meticulous process that requires attention to detail and adherence to specific guidelines to ensure optimal results. The following instructions provide a systematic approach to properly install your graphics kit, ensuring maximum durability and aesthetic appeal.

Before beginning the installation, it is essential to gather all necessary tools and materials. These are:

  • A clean, dry microfibre cloth.
  • Surface degreaser such as isopropyl alcohol.
  • Adhesive removal solution (where required).
  • Heat gun or hairdryer.
  • Felt edged squeegee (available here).

1. Preparation of the Surface

The surface of the plastics should be thoroughly cleaned to remove any dirt, grease, or old adhesive residues. Use a suitable surface degreaser and ensure the surface is completely clean and dry before proceeding. A clean surface enhances the adhesion of the graphics. This still applies for brand new plastics, which can often have remnants of release agents from the manufacturing process on their surfaces.

2. Positioning the Graphics

Before removing the backing, position the graphics on the panel to determine the best placement. If necessary, use masking tape to temporarily hold the graphics in place.

For front bumpers and nassau panels, it is advisable to start with the centre panels and work outwards. Check the bodywork panels for centreline features to help you find the middle of the panel. These can be aligned with corresponding centreline features on the supplied stickers. For side pods, it is best to start in one of the rear corners and work forwards.

Priority should be given to aligning the design crossover points with adjacent pieces during fitting.

3. Applying the Graphics

Once the positioning is satisfactory, carefully peel back a portion of the backing from the graphic. Align the exposed section with the target area on the kart and tack it down gently to begin with, so that it can be easily lifted and realigned if needed.

Once happy with the initial tacked positioning, gradually peel away the backing while smoothing the graphic onto the surface. Where applicable, aim to draw a line up the centre of the graphic with your finger to create a 'spine' and then work outwards towards the edges of the graphic from there. Usg a felt edged squeegee.

4. Heat Activation

After the graphic is applied, use a heat gun or hairdryer on a low setting to activate the adhesive. This step is crucial as it allows the graphic to conform to the contours of the bodywork. Move the heat source evenly across the graphic, ensuring not to overheat any area, which could damage the material.

5. Final Smoothing

Once the graphics are heated, use the squeegee to press down firmly on the graphic, ensuring complete adhesion. Pay special attention to edges and corners, as these areas are prone to lifting over time.

6. Curing Time

Allow the graphics to cure for at least 48 hours before exposing the kart to water or extreme conditions (especially impacts and low temperatures). This period is essential for the adhesive to set properly, ensuring longevity and performance.
